I was asked to “offer-up” some personal information for this page, so you, the reader, can learn more about me (note-taking is recommended as there may be a quiz at the end). I was born a poor black man, no wait, that’s Navin R. Johnson from “The Jerk” (favorite movie). Actually, I was born an Air-Force brat at the Air-Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. In typical military fashion, we moved almost every year until my father retired from the service. I spent almost all of my “growing” years in Wisconsin. Stops along the way include Waukesha, Sheboygan Falls, Eau Claire, and La Crosse, although most of the time was in Green Bay. Yes, I’m a Packer fan. At one time, I lived about six blocks from Lambeau Field, and I went to Vincent T. Lombardi Jr. High. I now have dogs named Vince, and Lombardi, only because my wife refused to let me grace my baby daughter with the middle name of Lombardi... High school was followed by a year at UW-River Falls where I did everything but go to class (it’s no wonder I was asked not to return for my Sophomore year. The letter read something like, "We suggest you pursue something different at this point in time..."). From there, it was off to Brown Institute in Minneapolis to “study” radio (like there’s a lot to study!) For me, the radio road has gone through Carroll, Algona, and Emmetsburg (all in Iowa) before my stay here in Sioux City, where I’ve been since 1998.

-The nickname is Chopper. So, of course, I fit in with bikers, and some of the nicest ones I've ever met belong to the Independent Riders for Children and Charities. They ride all the time, plus do great things for their communities. Their motto is 'Helping out where we can, doing what's right, making an impact'. They live up to it too! It's well-known that Thanksgiving is day reserved primarily for eating, but just how much do we eat on average? A new survey from BASIS Science reveals the average person consumers 4,500 calories at their Thanksgiving meal. The researchers found that most people believe they're eating less than half of that amount, and as a result wildly underestimate how much activity they'd need to do to burn it off. Twenty-five-percent of those surveyed said they thought they could burn off their turkey feast by working out for two hours, when in reality it would take a 130-pound woman more than 15-and-a-half hours of brisk walking to burn that off. Sixty-percent of those surveyed said they go for a walk after their meal, while others said they'd get busy in the bedroom later to burn it off.
If you're someone who hits the snooze button when your alarm goes off every morning, trying to eke out just a few more minutes of sleep, it's time to end the habit. The Week cites an essay in Pacific Standard that says of the snooze button: "Not only do we delay the start of our days, but we compromise the very sleep we are trying to steal. . . . When we hear the first sound of the alarm, our bodies release adrenaline and cortisol, hormones that wake us, interrupting our natural sleep cycle to make us alert. Surrendering to the temptation of the snooze erases that hormonal surge: Our bodies try to reenter the deeper periods of sleep. Only those restorative levels of sleep take a lot longer than nine minutes to enter, so every snooze confuses our bodies even more." The essay argues, in fact, that "snooze sleep" is worse than not getting any extra sleep because it throws off your circadian rhythms and you'll actually feel groggier than if you'd just gotten up naturally.
